The real-life Annelise was frightened by the occupation and the events she witnessed during the war. “I suppose I had heard the story before, of the way the Danes smuggled their Jewish population to Sweden in 1943,” Lowry writes. Annelise spoke compellingly about her fear during air raids and frozen winters-and her terror of the Nazis who occupied her country and controlled its citizens’ lives. There, on a 1988 vacation, Lowry talked to her friend Annelise about her childhood experiences in wartime Denmark. ![]() Though the book takes place in 1940s Denmark, where protagonist Annemarie helps the Danish Resistance hide and smuggle Danish Jews to safety in Sweden, it started in Bermuda. ![]() Lois Lowry’s 1989 novel Number the Stars, didn’t just win a prestigious Newbery Medal and make you cry as you wrote your book report-it was also based on a true story, as Lowry told The Reading Teacher in 1990. ![]() ![]() ![]() Lara Jean and Peter get back in a relationship, but it's a bumpy road. Lara Jean and Peter broke off whatever they were, but Lara realizes that she loves him and writes the letter. ![]() This book takes of where the last book left off. I adored the first book! It was the perfect contemporary, but thee ending just wasn't an ending! I was happy to know that the story would be continued! I didn't love this as much as the first book, but I still love this book! ![]() I cannot give justice to this book, this is such a good and amazing book. amazing writing, realistic characters and sub/plots, and very well translated kinds of love. and that's what is so beautiful about this series, it makes you think and feel. This book made me realize, remember, and reconsider being a teen. and i swear to you, i felt as though i became a kid with Lara Jean's group of friends from that one hot summer. Childhood is also a big part in this story. and having John around the story gives us a new perspective in love and as a challenge. ![]() This time though, it's starting to become a love triangle. So why envy? i feel so envious because I feel like this is what a first romance should be and Lara Jean and Peter are so realistic! Being sixteen is still such an innocent age and this book reflected that so much. it still has the same formula with To All The Boys I've Loved Before with family, friendship, relationships, but love was raised to the second power. ![]() |
